Title:                     Vessel Food Services Manager

Position:              Full-time/Non-Exempt

Reports To:         Director of Crew Management

Division:              River

Location(s):        Paducah, KY

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Promote a strong safety culture and lead by example.
  • Participate in the interview and selection process of vessel cooks.
  • Supervise, evaluate and train vessel cooks. 
  • Live aboard and ride vessels to assess cooks’ skill sets and abilities.
  • Administer company policies including recommendations for disciplinary actions.
  • Promote the importance of personal hygiene and the requirement that company vessels/ galley must always be kept in a clean and orderly state.
  • Develop balanced nutritious menu choices to promote wellness (healthy employees) and address any dietary concerns with vessel crews.
  • Develop proposals/input into annual budget.
  • Assist vessel managers in tracking food cost to ensure budget is maintained and inventory is standardized.  
  • Develop and implement best practices and policies for vessel cooking and food rotation. 
  • Drive positive employee morale by providing the best hospitality/customer service experience for crews.

 

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years in kitchen management experience in the food service industry.
  • Experience supervising food service personnel is preferred.
  • Familiarization with the maritime/river industry is a plus.
  • Ability to travel and board numerous vessels for inspection, evaluation and training purposes.
  • Demonstrated skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous training experience is preferred. 
  • Required physical activities include walking, standing, balancing, climbing, bending, stooping, lifting (up to 40 lbs.), reaching, and pushing/pulling, handling/digital dexterity, talking, hearing, and seeing.  Must pass Cook Physical/Qualifications’ process.
  • Education/Training in Culinary Arts or related field desired.
