Title:                   Benefits Manager - Human Resources  
Position:            Full-time/Exempt
Reports to:        SR VP of Human Resources
Location:           Paducah, KY
 
Principal Responsibilities:
  • Administer employee benefits and related plans including, but not limited to, Medical (includes Rx and Vision), Dental, Short and Long-term Disability, Basic Life/AD&D, Voluntary Life, COBRA, Telemedicine, Stop Loss and Flexible Spending Accounts.
  • Conduct vessel new hire orientation to present company benefits referenced above, as well as, EAP, FMLA, 401k, etc.  Also, conduct one on one meetings to cover benefit offerings with new employees as needed. 
  • Maintain documents and records to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations including, but not limited to, ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA and FMLA.
  • Manage wellness program and strategies to improve employee health and productivity.  This includes organizing employee health fairs, flu shot clinics, etc.
  • Responsible for the planning and execution of the annual Open Enrollment process. 
  • Coordinate and oversee benefits’ related HRIT (Workterra) activities.  Handle all benefit customizing and updating applications to ensure effective administration & accuracy of benefit election electronic file feeds to respective carriers. 
  • Annual coordination with HRIT (Workterra) vendor for system generation and distribution of 1095-C forms to employees.
  • Facilitate employee meetings (i.e., “lunch and learns”) in the River and Gulf Division offices to communicate benefit plan and/or carrier changes, updates, etc. 
  • Make vessel visits to ensure employees are informed and understand benefit options.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and year-end reports.
  • Review monthly vendor invoices for accuracy and provide to the Accounting department for payment processing.
  • Schedule applicable non-work-related return-to-work/fit-for-duty exams & follow protocols & procedures for employees who have been off on FMLA, short or long-term disability, personal illness, etc.
  • Track and compile time off data for monitoring and tracking FMLA and develop reports in conjunction with payroll reconciliation for benefit cost arrearages.     
  • Handle employee benefit inquiries, complaints, and escalations to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution. Maintain contact with carriers/vendors, employees, and beneficiaries to facilitate proper and complete utilization of benefits for all employees.    
  • Manage and function as primary liaison with benefit consultants, third-party administrators, and other providers.
  • Manage one administrative direct report.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field. May consider candidates with equivalent years of work experience.   
  • Five (5) years’ hands-on work experience in Benefits’ Administration in a high volume fast-paced environment.  Prior experience communicating with employees remotely preferred.
  • Must be self-starter with proven customer service, organizational, and analytical skills and be a detailed oriented problem solver and flexible team player. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to travel (less than 10%).
