Title: Vessel Quality Safety and Environmental (VQSE) Manager
Position: Full-time Salaried Exempt
Reports to: Director of Safety & Compliance
Division: Gulf-Inland
Location: St. Rose, LA
Principal Responsibilities:
Vessel Compliance Inspector - ensure U.S. Coast Guard, OSHA, ISM, TMSA, & Customer compliance by studying and interpreting regulations and standards; conducting inspections, identifying problems, developing solutions, accompanying and working with inspectors or boarding teams.
Lead accident prevention practices through investigation; identify root causes of accidents and recommend policies and procedures.
Vessel Safety Training - Prepare employees for safe work by developing and disseminating safety information; assist in development of orientation and awareness training, conducting safety training and work audits.
Represent the company by attending U.S. Coast Guard, Industry, and OSHA sponsored meetings.
Maintain safety awareness by providing information relevant to the operation of both vessel and shore side facilities, conduct inspections, recommend improvements, and coach crews.
Recommend purchase of safety equipment by evaluating products and provide technical expertise in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Provide safety information and reports by collecting analyzing, and summarizing data and trends; publish reports; develop both audit and corrective action plans; write periodic articles for company newsletters; draft safety alerts to vessels and shore facilities; maintain OSHA records; submit U.S. Coast Guard and OSHA reports.
Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environments by understanding current and proposed legislations; adhere to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alert management regarding potential concerns.
Improve safety management job knowledge by attending workshops; review professional publications; establish personal networks; benchmark practices; participate in professional and industry safety advocacy groups such as AWO Inter-Regional Safety Committee.
Contribute to safety and organization success by welcoming related, different, and new requests for assistance or recommendations; help others achieve their safety-related performance objectives and goals.
Audit AWO and OMSA Security Plans and implementation.
Comply with the company Safety Management System in support of continual improvement and management objectives.
Qualifications
:
Previous experience in areas of investigations, boarding, marine inspection or shipboard operations/engineering preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred.
5+ years in Marine industry preferred.
Experience working ABS and preparing vessels for Flag State or ABS inspection preferred.
ISO 9001 Auditor Training and/or ISM Auditor experience is a plus.
SIRE or OVID Inspection experience preferred.
Strong communication (written and oral) skills required.
Ability to perform a variety of complicated tasks with minimal supervision required.
Demonstrated skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office required.
Travel ~ 50%.
U.S. Coast Guard experience or equivalent in areas of investigation, boarding, marine safety, and inspections.
Ability to take and pass an approved auditor course.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
