Principal Responsibilities:

Manage fast-paced day-to-day operations of your own fleet of tugs (10-12) line haul towboats in the 5000 to 9000 hp range) applying the company’s Core Principles.
Select, manage, evaluate, and train vessel supervisors and their subordinates.
Serve as primary liaison between vessel management and shore side personnel.
Responsible for maintaining good working relationships with all vessel employees.
Ensure fully qualified Master, Pilot, Chief, and Crew.
Ensure appropriate use of tug assists for bridge and lock transits.
Assure vessel compliance with all governmental regulations and Company policies.
Monitor river conditions and make available information necessary to support navigational decisions.
Administer company policies including disciplinary action and conducting performance evaluations.
Represent and articulate Company positions in response to US Coast Guard or regulatory agency initiatives.
Ensure vessels are operating within budget.
Comply with the Safety Management System in support of continual improvement and management objectives.
Investigate incidents and injuries and provide recommendations for their prevention.
Other assigned duties.

Qualifications:

Possess a US Coast Guard Merchant Mariners License, Master Towing Vessels license preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Forty percent travel to vessels. (Must have a valid driver’s license.)
Serve on-call rotation during weekends and evenings.
Must have working knowledge of modern navigation software.
Well versed in regulatory requirements and vessel inspections.
