Title:                    Barge Maintenance Supervisor

Location:             Harahan, LA & Paducah, KY
Principal Responsibilities:
  • Inspect Company assets which includes: barges, boats and ocean equipment, identifying problem areas and developing economically sensible recommendations for repairs to enhance life cycles and improve utilization.
  • Respond to vessels emergencies 24 hours a day 365 days a year minimizing loss of equipment and cargo. Coordinate with customer representatives and third party surveyors to document damages and recovery efforts minimizing vessel down time and expense.
  • Coordinate emergency response efforts with Port Captains and Safety Managers to ensure all recovery operations are conducted in a safe and prudent manner.
  • Represent Company interests in response to U.S. Coast Guard or other regulatory agency boarding’s resulting from an emergency response.  Develop and submit all necessary salvage, transit and recovery plans for approval.
  • Arrange On, Off Charter, Damage, General Condition, Appraisal and Evaluation surveys; review surveys and maintain accurate electronic and paper records.
  • Assist Engineering to conduct hull and condition surveys, audio gauging, damage surveys, general condition surveys or other vessel inspections as requested. 
  • Attend pre-construction conferences prior to construction.  Conduct quality assurance inspections during all phases of construction.  Maintain records of deficiencies and corrections.  Accept barges upon completion of construction.
  • Conduct all inspections following safety and health policies and procedures; including utilization of all required confined space entry instrumentation and equipment, adhering to all organization standards and policies, legal regulations and alerting management of potential concerns or issues.
  • Provide Claims department with technical review, support and analysis of damage surveys and invoices; commenting on appropriateness of costs and applicability to the claim.
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills (written and oral).
  • High School education.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in marine inspection or marine equipment repair required.
  • Demonstrated skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft programs such as:  Word, Excel, Outlook, Access or similar computer programs.
  • Ability to effectively utilize computer and office equipment, sit for extended periods at a work station.
  • Ability to travel to field locations, ride vessels, inspect equipment and respond to emergency situations onboard vessels and ashore 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
  • Ability to test, enter and inspect confined spaces of various types of marine equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. periodically.
